Listopia > A Complete History of Earth Through Historical Fiction
This is a list of books I've aggregated that tell the history of the Earth through the lens of historical fiction. I am slowly compiling it and am always looking for books to fill gaps in time periods. The rules I've imposed for the books in this list is that they must be fiction, but the grounded historical reality of the time period must be respected (so no time travel, science fiction, or fantasy). I look for books that are representative of that particular time period, even if the knowledge of the era has changed since then (Before Adam by Jack London is a good example, or Clan of the Cave Bear). The goal here is to get a dramatic reading of the history of the Earth. Because it's a story where the Earth is truly the main character, I am avoiding intimate dramatic novels that take place during a specific time period (D.H. Lawrence's Sons and Lovers, for example); additionally, I am not including biographies unless those biographies are historical fiction (emphasis on fiction). I will include biographical fiction (The Last Kingdom series by Bernard Cornwell is a great example). Anyway, it's just a fun project that I have because I bought a new bookshelf and decided this would be a fun endeavor.
