Laura mccaffery Seduction by M.J.Rose has mystery, suspense, romance, and a fast moving plot. Characters grab and hold our interest.

message 2: by Adam (new)

Adam Washington The ratings on the "Best Reads" list are virtually meaningless when only a handful of people have rated the book. Please provide an option permitting the user to set the minimum number of ratings before a book is included in the list. I am mainly interested in books that have been rated by at least 1,000 people.

Even with highly anticipated new releases you won't have ratings from 1000 people for a while. This is just a fun list for spring/summer reads.
Cheers,
KIM

message 4: by Nancy (new)

Nancy To me, Beach Reads means a light, fun, fast read. I was surprised by some of the books that are more serious being on this list.

message 9: by Lobstergirl (new)

Lobstergirl Are beach reads for women only? Looking at your tags makes me think so.

And if yes, why?

message 10: by Nancy (new)

Nancy I don't think of Beach Reads being exclusively for women, but then again, I don't see as many guys reading there as women. The books I picked probably would not appeal to men.

message 11: by AndrewP (new)

AndrewP Wow 674 book and only a half a dozen that I would consider reading, or have already read.

message 12: by Brian (new)

Brian Bixler I'm with Lobstergirl. I thought the same thing while scanning the list. I also found very few that I have read.

message 13: by C. J. (new)

C. J. Scurria On a side note I have been noticing Goodreads seems to be malfunctioning sort of lately. Did anyone notice it? I hope whatever bugs Goodreads has been happening will be sorted out soon.

On this list it claimed that I have "0 books from my collection in here and 0 books in my to-read list." Not going very far down the list I keep finding books that are already on my to-read list and books I have already read.

What is going on, Goodreads?!!

message 14: by Patty (new)

Patty Duffy I'd like to see Ian McEwan's Sweet Tooth added to the list.

message 15: by Jonquil (new)

Jonquil Nancy wrote: "To me, Beach Reads means a light, fun, fast read. I was surprised by some of the books that are more serious being on this list."

You should read "Love of Truth by CT Oliver. I think it's what you're looking for in a good beach read.

message 16: by Mariann (new)

Mariann Torchia GROWING UP BIN LADEN......written by one of his sons and his first wife. Fascinating!

message 17: by Sue (new)

Sue K. Loved "The Peace Bridge" (DC Hubbard) - solid historical research spun into a tale of young love but with believable emotional family burdens to be resolved related to the holocaust. Kept me involved to the very end.

message 18: by Rosalee (new)

Rosalee Loved "Don't Say a Word"! Great story and writing! Also enjoyed (and laughed out loud) with "Shut up and Kiss Me"...

message 19: by Kim (new)

Kim Boykin Looking at the titles at the top of the list, it's making me rethink that my definition of a beach read. I think fun, insightful without going overboard. What's your definition of a great beach read?

message 20: by Patty (new)

Patty Duffy Compelling characters and a plot that keeps moving the reader forward. I'm half way through And the Mountains Echoed. Love the story telling qualities!

message 21: by Marilyn (new)

Marilyn Miles Acapulco Adventure is a light, fun, fast read, only 36 pages! What better beach than Acapulco?

message 22: by Sue (new)

Sue K. Just finished, A Romanov Bride, another historical novel, this one re. the Russian revolution of early 20th century. Fast read & very informative too!

message 23: by Patty (new)

Patty Duffy Has anyone read The Kitchen House?

message 24: by Rebecka (new)

Rebecka Adam wrote: "The ratings on the "Best Reads" list are virtually meaningless when only a handful of people have rated the book. Please provide an option permitting the user to set the minimum number of ratings b..."

AGREED!

message 25: by Say (new)

Say Weller Nancy wrote: "To me, Beach Reads means a light, fun, fast read. I was surprised by some of the books that are more serious being on this list."

Agreed! I just finished the Second Act Series by Julia Dumont, and could zip through a book/day. That's a beach read to me!

message 26: by Shirley (new)

Shirley First Night of Summer A gritty, fast-paced, must read psychological thriller/ mystery. Disturbing yet relevant---and full of emotion. Not for the faint of heart. I found it to be a touching story where good triumphs over evil. Great ending!

message 27: by Donna (new)

Donna Davis Kim wrote: "Looking at the titles at the top of the list, it's making me rethink that my definition of a beach read. I think fun, insightful without going overboard. What's your definition of a great beach read?"
I was just thinking of the same question. There are a couple of books here (To Kill a Mockingbird is one; The Hobbit is another) that are so momentous that I don't think I'd want to read them on vacation. How could I hop up as soon as someone said, "Let's get something to eat!" while my cheeks are still wet with tears from the death of Thorin Oakenshield? How can I mix Boo Radley and a beach fire? I think I'd be too deep inside my head to be much fun!

On the other hand, I can totally see reading Tina Fey's Bossypants at the beach, and I actually DID read The Nanny Diaries on vacation (though not at the beach) over the summer. It was just right; I could read late, knowing I could sleep in, but it didn't haunt me when I was with others.

message 28: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Thompson Patty wrote: "Has anyone read The Kitchen House?"

Yes and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Also, try "House girl"

message 29: by Mary (new)
