LauraJean How could I possibly choose between Suze (The Mediator) and Alanna (Song of the Lioness)?!?!?!?!?!?

message 2: by [deleted user] (new)

So true!

message 3: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Why isn't Juliet Marriller books are on here? All of her books are mostly females heroines. :)

message 4: by Sudeshna (new)

Sudeshna What about Tamara Pierce? ALL the books by her I've read have female heroines! Plus, why is PERCY JACKSON on here? Percy's a boy. Annabeth's not a heroine.

I forgot to add Tamara Pierce! Thanks for reminding me. As for Percy Jackson, I didn't add that novel. It was added by someone else.

I love her books!

message 7: by Yaa (new)

Yaa How did Twilight end up in "Kick butt heroines"?

message 8: by Nikki (new)

Nikki The list is called "Kick Butt HEROINES" not heros, so why is Percy Jackson on here? Jeez people, get you facts straight! But yes, I do agree with The Hunger Games and The Vampire Academy Series! Go Katniss and Rose!

message 9: by Deena (new)

Deena Hypothesis 52 people voted for Percy Jackson, wtf.
Most of these are YA, Tamora Pierce should win for this one.

message 10: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Bastian Hands down you can't get anymore kick butt than alanna and you can't get anymore heroine than alanna... I didn't understand why half these books were chosen.

message 11: by Yaa (new)

Yaa Nikki wrote: "The list is called "Kick Butt HEROINES" not heros, so why is Percy Jackson on here? Jeez people, get you facts straight! But yes, I do agree with The Hunger Games and The Vampire Academy Series! Go..."

There's Annabeth and Thalia

message 12: by Danna (new)

Danna Voted for:
Katniss, from The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins
Lyra, from The Golden Compass (His Dark Materials, #1) by Philip Pullman
Scarlett, from Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
Lisabeth, from The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium, #1) by Stieg Larsson
And even classics has great heroines!
Jo, from Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
and
Jane, from Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë

This is a great list. I would love it if you could vote for my lists, too, Kate Joy!

message 13: by Kelley (new)

Kelley These are some intriguing-looking books, but I can't help noticing a couple of things:
First, quite a few of these books have male protagonists -- which means the "kick-butt heroines" in those books aren't really the heroines of their own lives but supporting players in someone else's story. That doesn't mean they can't be wonderful characters, but it is a bit of a disappointment that the focus isn't on them.
Second, Twilight is what you read when you DON'T want to see a heroine kick butt, when instead you fantasize about being completely helpless and in perpetual need of rescue. There is absolutely nothing kick-butt about Bella Swan. So how did it get any votes for this list???

message 14: by Celia (new)

Celia I think Harry Potter could be added for Hermione. She's a main character and kick a*s.

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

Auburn wrote: "How did Twilight end up in "Kick butt heroines"?"

Bella was a total whiner until Breaking Dawn, then she kicked butt. I voted for that one.

What I'd like to know is who put Roomon there? Seriously? The kid kicked butt, she was so irritating and lame I almost quit reading the book!

message 16: by Danna (new)

Danna Wasn't this list titled "kick ass heroines"?

message 17: by [deleted user] (last edited Apr 17, 2012 10:25AM) (new)

Yes, it was/is. Did you think that the mother in Room was a "kick ass heroine"? If so, that is where we differ, Danna.

message 18: by Danna (new)

Danna Amelia wrote: "Yes, it was/is. Did you think that the mother in Room was a "kick ass heroine"? If so, that is where we differ, Danna."

I haven't read Room. What does it have to do with the question?:)

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

Thought you were responding to Message 15. ;)

message 20: by Danna (new)

Danna Oh, no :)

message 21: by Kaitlyn (new)

Kaitlyn How did City of Bones get on here? Clary is one of the LEAST kick-butt heroines ever.

message 22: by Emma (new)

Emma Kaitlyn *Nandos* wrote: "How did City of Bones get on here? Clary is one of the LEAST kick-butt heroines ever."

If you have read the other books belonging to The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare you would not be saying that. I think the serise is supost to tell us that even to the most ordenary person, extraordenary things can happen. Clary really evolves into a hard core killer of demonds. I respect your veiw on the book, but I would like for you to be more consideret of the people who like, even love, this book.

message 23: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Sudeshna wrote: "What about Tamara Pierce? ALL the books by her I've read have female heroines! Plus, why is PERCY JACKSON on here? Percy's a boy. Annabeth's not a heroine."

I know!

message 24: by Kelley (new)

Kelley Toward the latter part of the list, one runs across some howlers. "The Bridges of Madison County"? Granted, not every heroine needs to be a warrior, but this list is called "Kick-Butt Heroines," and... "The Bridges of Madison County"? Really??

message 25: by Barbara (new)

Barbara Escher There is no book I can think of whose heroine can kick butt like Fi Kelly in the "Eden's Root" trilogy by Rachel Fisher. Fiercely tough when she has to be, Fi is an unforgettable winner.

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

Please add Throne of Glass series! Nice list, btw:)
