This is a list of novels that may be considered for the Man Booker Prize in 2014.
Eligible novels are those published between Oct 2013 - Sep 2014, with new rule changes broadening the countries of origin from the Commonwealth (inc. Ireland & Zimbabwe) to include all novels written originally in English and published in the UK. The most significant implication will be the inclusion of American authors, though their published work in Britain must be by "an established imprint." The number of submissions allowed per publishing house will now depend on the number of their novels which have been shortlisted for the prize in recent years.
Longlist = 23 July 2014
Shortlist = 9 Sep 2014
Winner = 14 Oct 2014
Chair = A.C. Grayling
Other judges: Jonathan Bate, Sarah Churchwell, Daniel Glaser, Alastair Niven, Erica Wagner

Thanks for the list.I've only really picked out ones I have a firmer idea about their authors reputation. It's a work in progress at the moment!
I am trying to add The Night Guest by Fiona McFarlane but can't. It is a wonderful book and I am quite sure eligible for the 2014 Booker.
Thanks to Philip and Ethan. I really enjoy working through as many of the books as possible. Should The People in the Trees by Hanya Yanagihara be on the list? I think that it was published in August 2013.
Is The Embassy of Cambodia: Short Story eligible? I don't think the Booker explicitly excludes short stories - though I remember last year The Testament of Mary was mentioned as the shortest book ever shortlisted, and that is more of a novella. There is also the question of publication date, though I think in that case The Embassy of Cambodia will slip through, as it wasn't published in book form till November 2013.
I found it interesting that the long and short list can include books not yet published by those dates (I even had to check the MB web site to be sure!). Has this happened before - books on the long list have not been accessed by the general public?
The cut-off point for the prize is the end of September each year, and books published in the previous 12 months are eligible. This often results in books being longlisted, and even shortlisted, before they are published. I think last year 5 of the 13 books were published after the longlist was announced. Also important to note is that the relevant date is the first British publication, regardless of whether it has been previously published in another country.
Removed ineligible books:Eligible 2013 (first UK publication before 1 Oct 2013)
A Girl is a Half-Formed Thing by Eimear McBride
Eligible 2015 (publication after 30 Sep 2014)
Nora Webster by Colm Toibin
The Wolf Border by Sarah Hall
Lurid & Cute by Adam Thirlwell
The Illuminations by Andrew O'Hagan
(All originally scheduled for spring/summer 2014)

Also, Paul Murray's The Mark & The Void might not be out until next year, but there's conflicting info on different sites about the publication date, so it's staying on the list.
Laff #7: Both the UK Kindle and epub were released by Atlantic in August 2013. The hardcopy was released Jan 2014 which is when the press reviews appeared. The Booker rules don't say anything about this specific situation, but its first UK publication would appear, on the face of it, to have been in the 2013 prize year.
The longlist is:To Rise Again at a Decent Hour by Joshua Ferris
The Narrow Road to the Deep North by Richard Flanagan
We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves by Karen Joy Fowler
The Blazing World by Siri Hustvedt
"J" by Howard Jacobson
The Wake by Paul Kingsnorth
The Bone Clocks by David Mitchell
The Lives of Others by Neel Mukherjee
Us: A Novel by David Nicholls
The Dog: A Novel by Joseph O'Neill
Orfeo by Richard Powers
How To Be Both by Ali Smith
History of the Rain by Niall Williams
If anyone is wondering how the speculation list did, all the Longlist books made it onto the list and below is their rank the morning the Longlist was announced (avg position 55.2)4 The Bone Clocks
10 The Narrow Road to the Deep North
13 The Blazing World
