I really like it when the main character accomplishes something great, preferably using supernatural powers, but just epic is good too. It's really frustrating when things are just happening to the main character, without them doing anything, not making any decisions. Not that enjoyable for me when they fail all the time either, so epicness is a must.
Secondly, I prefer books that are funny. I read for entertainment, not to learn about issues in the real world. Of course thorough psychology is necessary so the characters would seem natural, but funny situations are after all what make me laugh.
Third, i would like the awesomeness of the main character to be appreciated by someone (other than me), so i'd like some bit of romance in the story. When the main character is alone, it makes me feel lonely reading the book. But other (non-romantic) close connections are welcome as well.
