It's almost impossible to find space-based YA sci-fi. These books feature adolescents, aliens, space ships, extraterrestrial planets, and awesomeness.

Xenophon Hendrix Dune features a teenager in space, but I guess I wouldn't call it a young-adult novel, whatever those are supposed to be.

message 2: by Nila (new)

Nila Yes! I've been looking for more space ya books.

message 3: by Caitlin (new)

Caitlin The Knife Of Never Letting Go isn't set in space, it's set on another planet. This planet has an atmosphere and its own moons. So if this book can be classed as being set in space, so can every book. I appreciate that some aspects of the book involve space, but that's not where it's set.

message 4: by Darlene (new)

Darlene Stairclimber is listed twice. See #33 and #91. Maybe one is suppose to be another book from the series - Airborne or Skybreaker.

message 5: by Mary (new)

Mary Catelli Mirror Dance is not about teenagers

message 6: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart Thanks for the heads up! I removed Mirror Dance. It's definitely not YA.

message 7: by Darlene (new)

Darlene Based on the titles in the list it seems stories where a teen travels to another planet in space would fit. What about Enchantress From the Stars by Engdahl? David Weber has a series including A Beautiful Friendship, Fire Season and Treecat Wars. There aren't many books where a teen is on a space ship for the whole story, but there are several more where a teen travels through space to another planet or lives on a planet other than earth. Your list is a great starting point for stories like that. There's even a Heinlein title I don't recognize. I'm going to track it down. Thanks!

message 9: by Lexx (new)

Lexx Just added My Return To Planet Earth. A teen ends up in space after meeting other alien teens. Told from his point of view as he travels aboard a cargo ship. There is also another in the series due out 2017. Liked the first Book.

Have you checked out Digging in the Stars? Teens doing archaeology in outer space.

message 11: by Sally (new)

Sally Help with title?
Hi pals, I have been trying to remember the title of this book I read as a young adult... I think it's a one word title ("Galaxy-something?") The plot, as I remember it, is that a girl is abducted by aliens (presumably) and her time there includes being observed like a zoo animal and acrobatic performances in a great big open space on the "ship".
I know, it's frustratingly little to go on. Help?

message 12: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart Sally, sounds like Galax-Arena by Gillian Rubinstein.

message 13: by Kenneth (new)

Kenneth uhhh i read a book a while ago, have no clue on the name but it was set with the mc being like a nerd if i remember correctly and he got picked for some government expirement where he basically just went to space to meet aliens and complete challenges, and he met some i think cat girl and they end up dating, pretty sure its a trilogy. Also if any of u know, i want this other book where they live on earth but the mc gets picked to go into this building with other really really smart kids and he tries breaking out after finding something out abot it, they do like weird questions and stuff and can buy whatever they want, pretty sure at the beginning his dad like buys a new stove or something and overdraws and thats why he gets taken away.

message 14: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart Keith, you might want to try the What's the Name of That Book??? group.

message 15: by SamSpayedPI (new)

SamSpayedPI The White Mountains series is not space-based.

message 16: by Wolfgarr (new)

Wolfgarr Another list inundated with books that do not fit the description. What a waste

message 17: by Lida (new)

Lida Keshvarikanzagh The Deity I Did Not Want

After a long time, I finally read a book with a completely fresh and original idea. This is a short story available on Amazon Kindle, and it takes no more than 20 minutes to read — but it has so much to say. Once you start, you simply can't put it down. I highly recommend it to everyone!
