All things philatelic, and then some - on the cover, in the name or a key point of the plot.

Themis-Athena (Lioness at Large) Would "the stamp of one defect" qualify?

message 2: by Bettie (new)

Bettie I'm halfway sure there is a sherlock holmes story involving a stamp

Themis-Athena (Lioness at Large) Err, I meant that speech by the Prince of Denmark ...?

And a good morning to you, of course!!

palm/head!

lol

of course, you are on the lateral-thinking ball this morning

Themis-Athena (Lioness at Large) More like a Hamlet nut's knee-jerk reaction. I'm barely awake yet ...

Yes, so am I. Will have to see if I can think of which one it is.

Themis-Athena (Lioness at Large) Hmm. I can think of several Holmes mysteries featuring letters, and at least two movies where stamps figure as part of the plot or the solution ("Sherlock Holmes in Washington" and the German "Der Mann, der Sherlock Holmes war") -- and I, too, have the ghost of a "Holmes and philately" story hovering somewhere in the back of my mind. But so far I'm drawing a blank!

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads There's a play called Mauritius, which has something about the Inverted Jenny in it, apparently (haven't read it myself).

Themis-Athena (Lioness at Large) I also remember a children's book entitled "(somebody) and the blue Mauritius" ("(...) und die blaue Mauritius"), or something of the sort. But I'm darned if I can find it -- or rediscover the author -- in the GR database!

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Is it "Billy Bunter and the Blue Mauritius"? Author Charles Hamilton aka Frank Richards.

Bettie Billy BUnter and the....

Good sleuthing Susanna, T-A

Themis-Athena (Lioness at Large) It might have been, though reading the plot summary on Amazon doesn't ring any bells (not that that says a lot about anything except the size of the Swiss cheese holes in my brain). Wouldn't it be funny, though, if there were TWO children's books with that title?!

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads It would be very funny!
