"Three stars because the author's hatred for Mao limits her ability to present Mao. She tends to get bogged down in minor details simply for the purpose of slamming Mao again. You cannot finish half the book with out saying, "Yeah, I get it he was a horrible man!" the problem is she takes you to that point repetitively seemingly only for that purpose. He seems to have almost no "positive" qualities. The machinactions of the party and the thought processes could have been elaborated on more thoroughly.
