me TOO!!!! It's giving me a whole new perspective on these books..... and I just found a treasure that I forgot I bought that I want to read! (This Is The Way The World Ends)
neither is The Lone Ranger and Tonto's Fistfight blah blah blah you are getting carried awaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
I don't think "Who has seen the wind" should count. To be a sentence, rather than a relative adjectival phrase, it would need to have a question mark at the end. I'm just saying.
Simon wrote: ""Possessing the Secret of Joy" is not a sentence, is it?"Oh, right - no subject. I'll take that one off. Hah!
I think you should give me leeway on "Who has seen the wind". The question mark is silent. :-p
The question mark is silentthat's how i read it too. i stand correct on the fistfight.
eta: bwahhahahahah nice freudian slip! *corrected* of course.
None of the titles have punctuation, so there's that, too.I'm wanting to add: Family Matters. You can read matters as either a verb or a noun, and I'm certain Mistry intended it that way, no?
I never heard the Mistry as a sentence, but I'm sure you're right, now you've pointed it out to me. Definitely add it.
I suggest : May we be Forgiven (silent question mark) The Violent Bear it Away
Let the Right One In
We Were the Mulvaneys
The Heart is a Lonely Hunter

i think he reveled in the ambiguity. i second simon's add it.

totes legit
Paul wrote: "I suggest : May we be Forgiven (silent question mark) and The Violent Bear it Away and Lert the Right One In"Thank you! I was debating adding both of those. There's also Everything that rises must converge. I love her titles, tho' I'm not a huge fan of the work (please don't flog me)
You add them to YOUR list, Paul!! :-D
Simon wrote: "Agreed on O'Brien. The colon is there to suggest the antiphony of the marching chant."Wow. Are you pulling my leg?
I could never ever come up with that interpretation of the title. Also, I had to look up antiphony. hahaha I love it. I totally hear that now.
Well, I wondered about the colon. It was so odd there. And then I realized that it must be one of those things the grunts chant in all the movies like _Full Metal Jacket_ etc. And that made sense of the punctuation. Voila'.
Dave Eggers seems to really like the one-sentence, punctuated title. I am on the fence whether that makes me like him more or less.
So cool. Suggestions:Because it is Bitter, and Because it is My Heart
By Grand Central Station I Sat Down and Wept (haven't read this but it's one of my wife's favorites; great title)
I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream (well, if short stories are accepted)
I Am Legend
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
My Posse Don't Do Homework
By Grand Central Station I Sat Down and Wept - looooove that title; I haven't read it either though.Thank you Kirk! I love this list! (You know you can add to the main list too, yeah?)
It's crazy, I know. I've barely been reviewing as I vowed I would. I never did review February or Indian Horse. And I only have 8 days to squeeze The Enchanted April in before I have to start on my May mammoth read! :-D
