Bootlegger's Daughter (Deborah Knott Mysteries, #1)
by
"The Deborah Knott series, now numbering 21 books. This first book won an Edgar award for first mystery novel. They are all good books, well-plotted, lots of tension, and characters you care about. Not quite as important to read these in order as with some other series, but the personal relationships are better if read in order."

Sir John heads up the Bow Street Runners and he and Jamie solve any number of interesting mysteries in Victorian London. A wonderful series that numbered 9 books. Sadly, there will be no more, as Bruce Alexander died in 2011."
