Two Friends
by
"This book arguably misrepresents histor. Susan B Anthony actually ended up aligning herself with racist folks who opposed black voting rights, and Frederick Douglass (who I adore) had his own issues with Lucy Stone and others mentioning women's suffrage at their abolitionist talks. These issues are not mentioned in the text or afterword. They need to be brought forward to show how this simplified, rosy picture of friendship among activists actually is much more complicated and limited and explore what purposes this narrative serves in the way it is presented.

Sisters: The Lives of America's Suffragists
by
"In Lucy Stone's chapter her husband's support for women's rights is detailed, although after Lucy actually agreed to marry him his support did not go as far as he had stated it would, breaking his pre-nuptial agreement to not sell Lucy's property, for example, and leaving her to travel for extended periods of time making it not possible for her to continue with her suffrage efforts that he previously said he would. Mixed bag in terms of him as an example of a male feminist."
