The Name of the Wind (The Kingkiller Chronicle, #1)
by
"There is no suitable Goodreads entry for The Kingkiller Chronicle, the unfinished trilogy by Patrick Rothfuss of which The Name of the Wind is Book 1.
Alexa
rated it 5 stars
Rothfuss's Kingkiller Chronicle is ripe with masterful worldbuilding--multitudes of references to the world's history; invented foreign languages; fantasy lands brimming with local superstitions, politics, and folklore; overarching sciences; a deep study of different schools of magic, including forms of alchemy, enchantment, symbology, and more--as well as incredible character-building and great writing overall. There are moments in The Name of the Wind that had my heart racing alongside the narrator's; my eyes tearing up to the sound of a musical scene so well-described I could all but hear it in my ears; my eyes widening with amazement at the all-too-satisfying feats of its prestigious and legendary protagonist, Kvothe. What's more, the entire Chronicle is driven on several mind-bending mysteries, the chief of which being--how and why did Kvothe do the deed which forced him into early retirement and earned him the oft-whispered name of "Kingkiller"? The Inheritance Cycle: The Inheritance Trilogy
by
"Paolini's Inheritance Cycle, I feel, is the be-all-end-all series when it comes to Dragon Lore. It was so intricately and thoroughly written that it irrevocably changed the way I conceived of the natures of stereotypical elves, dwarves, orcs (Urgals), were-creatures, magic-users, and dragons forever. Paolini's dragons, the worldbuilding and history of Alagaësia, the painstakingly-detailed magic system, and the classic overarching plot of unassuming-poor-farmboy-turned-inconceivably-strong/powerful-hero are simply unparalleled in other dragon-related fantasy books I've explored thus far."
