In general, I'd say that middle grade should be novels for 9 to 12 year olds, so no picture books for younger kids. Something like Ferdinand *might* quality as a very young MG since it is 72 pages, but that would be the bottom age limit. I think Anno's Spain and Never Say a Mean Word Again and other picture books would be too young.

I'll have to check the others. The Shadow of the Wind is adult for sure, not published for the juvenile market. Leaving the Atocha Station is adult. With the Fire on High is YA, I had no idea it was set in Spain! Thanks for adding that one.

Winter in Madrid, The Time in Between, The Queen's Vow, and The Muse are all adult fiction published for the adult market. Oh, The Stars and the Blackness Between Them takes place in the US and Trinidad and Tobago. Port of Spain is not actually in Spain.

I missed the "Port of" bit. Had the same problem with WorldCat giving me hits for "New Madrid", which I was hitherto unaware of! :)

I remember "New Madrid" from when I was working on the Missouri and natural disaster lists. They had a big earthquake in 1811.

Your votes look good. The only ones left that I would remove would be The Secret of Lemon Leaves, Little Indiscretions, Carved from Stone and Dream, and Memories of a Crappy Pooch, which are adult. Also Maria and Me, which I believe is adult but also non-fiction. The Spanish English Lady I believe also is adult. Hard to tell, but I don't think that edition is for young readers.

In general, a good rule of thumb is YA is for high school/upper secondary school, like 14 to 17 year old main characters, and MG is for younger like around 9 to 12 year olds. Maybe 8 years old at the youngest.

The Scent of Lemon Leaves, for example, the main character is a 30 year old woman and Alma Books publishes for adults, although they do have an imprint called Alma Junior for younger readers. Mainly it's based on imprint and marketing, although the boundaries can be fuzzy and occasionally books are cross-marketed. It's not an exact science for sure.

I'm not sure there's a full list of YA imprints, but some of the most popular ones, well, I'll have to email it because GR won't let me add a link for safety reasons, lol.
