Goodreads asked Allen G. Bagby:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Allen G. Bagby I go back and remind myself of why I wanted to write. I also review my story. Usually, blocks happen due to inspiration fizzling. And, the dying fizzle is due to a weakness in the story. I circle back and look for places to amp things up either with action or dialog or intrigue or all of those things. Sometimes it's too many characters stealing the steam. Sometimes you need to add a sidekick. The main thing is blocks usually stem from a weak story.
