What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Michael Stafford Be prepared before entering this battlefield. My publisher told me, and he is has a lifetime of experience, that 5% of all authors make 95% of the revenue.
Is that the type of business environment you want to enter? If the answer is yes, from the very beginning, seek to learn as much as possible about your craft. Write what you know. It is your business now. Set rules and follow them. Do it every day. Have a plan and execute it.
