Goodreads asked Alan Drew:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Alan Drew Bang my head against the desk. Actually, I've learned that the worst thing I can do is simply sit in front of the computer and hope that something breaks. There are days when I know it's not going to happen. I've learned to identify the feeling. Usually, I'll do a little editing, maybe jot down some notes for the next day, and then go do something else--mow the lawn, trim the hedges, make a gin-and-tonic! (That's bad advice.) For me and for most writers I know, the best thing is always to read. Often when I'm reading someone's else's words, I find myself, after a while, chewing on my own story. Reading sparks that feeling for language again and gives life back to your own words. If that fails, I'll play guitar, go down to the Philly Art Museum and take in some paintings, apply for a barista position at the local coffee shop...
