How do you get inspired to write?

Jodi Payne When ideas aren't flowing freely, I people-watch. I love characters, love creating personas and back stories. I can sit in a coffee shop and watch someone typing on a laptop or chatting with his boyfriend and imagine what brought them there that day, where they are going next, who they're in love with, what their biggest obstacle is - whatever. Make up a short story about them. Often, those little tales and the people end up as characters in my stories.
