Goodreads asked Sylvia Kane:

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Sylvia Kane Creation and control. It's almost like lucid dreaming (have you been lucky enough to have that experience?), where you're the director of everything - the world, the characters, the action - and with no nasty real life consequences to deal with!
Sometimes, though, characters seem to have a mind of their own and run off, and you have to rein them in like naughty children. That must be a result of the writer's subconscious rebelling.
Overall, it gives one a deep sense of satisfaction to create, and I think this is true of most people, whether they're writers, carpenters, or chefs.
