Goodreads asked Kate Kessler:

What mystery in your own life could be a plot for a book?

Kate Kessler My mother. She and I were incredibly close until dementia stole her away a little at a time, but I've always felt there was so much more to her than she let her children see. She was married to a difficult man for many years before finally taking back her independence, and she had an unbreakable will despite being practically crippled by arthritis. I think she intrigues me because there were so many 'might have been' scenarios in her life, and so many things I didn't know about her. She was a sweet, lovely woman who once confronted another woman's abusive husband when he tried to come into our house. She wasn't very big and she rarely raised her voice, but no one ever crossed her. I could write an entire book about what I do know about her, and it would only scratch the surface.
