If you had to write a mystery in another time period, what era would you chose?

Deanna Raybourn Oh, great question! I have written Victorian and 1920s, so those are obvious favorites, but I do have soft spots for the Regency, the Restoration, and the Middle Ages. The Regency and the Restoration were short periods of time and extremely colorful with lots of social change--all things I enjoy, particularly as evolving expectations for women were part of that change. (The Restoration was the first time women took to the stage in public and the Regency saw greater social freedom for women than the Victorian era which followed.) I also have the idea for a French Revolution book that's been kicking around in my head for ages...
