Not a question, just wanted to tell you that I finished this book this morning and I totally echo Miriam's comment. I work part time at our county library and acquired the book for our non-fiction section. I will be recommending it highly to our patrons, as well as people outside the county. Thank you! Guess I need to add a question mark...?

Thank you, Susanne! I really appreciate that you will be recommending the book -- word-of-mouth (especially from a librarian) is really the best way for a book to get into readers' hands. I know that I have received numerous fantastic suggestions from librarians throughout my life, and my life has been so much richer because of these recommendations.

Discussing "The Stranger..." for book club tonight. One aspect that stands out for me is that Knight's family (seemed to) hold such sway over him. As exampled in your last meeting - he was almosted terrified that his brother would see him with you.... do you believe that there really was no history of emotional (or physical) abuse? I'm convinced that something very odd was happening...Thanks for the entertaining read.

Why does the description of this book say that Chris left his home in "Massachusetts", drove to Maine and disappeared into the forest??? It says this on Goodreads and Amazon. I just read your book (loved it btw) and Chris grew up and lived in Maine, not Massachusetts.

Hi Michael, I just finished Stranger in the Woods and was very moved by it. I am interested in your description of how hermits frequently experience a "loss of self.” This seems similar to what you hear from Buddhist meditators who reach a deep point in their practice where the concept of self also begins to dissipate. Did you notice this connection and if so what do you make of it? Thanks, Ross
