Goodreads asked Vicky Whedbee:

How do you get inspired to write?

Vicky Whedbee I have always wanted to write, and have started books a couple of times, but other things that deemed more important always cropped up, and my dreams ended up on the back burner. My husband finally inspired me to start again, and so I did. I worked on "Things He Hadn't Told Her" 15 minutes here, 5 minutes there, off and on, in between work and everything else. Then my father was diagnosed with cancer. I had already lost my little brother (24 years old) so, even though he was going through treatments, and was fighting valiantly, I felt like I HAD to do whatever I needed to do , to get my book published and presented to my dad, in case the worst happened. I decided to forego the typical book publishing route, searching for an agent and publisher, by sending out query letters, and waiting & hoping, while time passed, and instead worked through learning how to format my book into an ebook. At least then I could show my dad I'd done it! He was ONE of the people who had faith that I could do it. I wanted to show him, he was right!
Then I discovered I could actually have a print book to present him! So I went to work formatting for that. As soon as possible I ordered a copy to HAND him. By this time, he was losing his battle with cancer, and had been sent home with help from Hospice. He asked me to read my book to him, and I started getting through the prologue and first chapter, a few paragraphs at a time. I went to see him and read some more one day, but was met with the most unexpected news when I arrived. My dad had complications, and passed 5 minutes before I got there.
