Goodreads asked Douglas Ewan Cameron:

How do you get inspired to write?

Douglas Ewan Cameron I judge this is about my books because I have written all my life. As a teenager, I wrote short stories for Boys LIfe. Don't think any were ever published. I was a mathematics professor and wrote research papers, several about the history of my specialilty. In retirement, we spend our summers on the shore of Hubbard Lake in the "Up North" part of Michigan (the upper part of the lower peninsula). I joined the local sportsman group (Hubbard Lake Sportsman & Improvement Association) and my first event (other than a meeting) was helping to clear rocks from the dry bottom of a farmer's so that he could safely plow the bottom and plant rye grass to feed and shelter young perch we were to harvest and take to Hubbard Lake at the end of the summer. The pond was made by an earthen work dam and I thought "What if a body was buried there." That was the genesis of The Body in the Perch Pond.
