Diane Laney Fitzpatrick The best thing aspiring writers can do is to blog. It's free, it's easy to set up (you can begin writing and "publishing" your work almost immediately) and it's never been easier to put your work out there.

Don't blog anonymously. Blogging under a pen name allows you some freedom, but if you ever want your work to reflect on you professionally, blog under your real name. Stand behind your work.
