Hi Michael,
Thanks for your question and for reading Rusticles. All the locations of Hilligoss are an amalgam of how I remember the landscapes I grew up with and an imagined extension of them. Breakneck Hill, as featured in Rusticles, is a real place and where I used to catch the bus to and from college everyday. There is a lot of folklore associated with it, starting with the name and its rumoured historical connection as the spot of a gallows.
