How do you get inspired to write?

J.R. Thompson When I was in the fourth grade, my teacher had us write and illustrate stories that included our weekly vocabulary words. I hated the illustrating part... but the making up stories was definitely up my alley. Then, when I was in the 12th grade our English teacher had us write short stories. After reading mine, she wrote a note and said it was an excellent story and asked if I had ever thought of becoming a writer. It was very encouraging to say the least.
