Robert A. Sullivan I used to think I wanted to live in the world that I've created with my characters--until I had a dream one night about spending the day with Carolyn on the island where they've all run away to, who's the main character in this series of books. She was either on the phone with Brandy the entire day or complaining to me about her and finally I thought, "You are no bargain. I'm not spending eternity with you." So I don't know; Arthur Clarke's 2001 future seems fairly benign.
