Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

N.K. Howell Girl space pirate who doesn't need any guy to rescue her because she can do it herself? My students inspired me to start tinkering with an idea years ago. What if you were being forced into a situation that you had no control over and the only way out was to hide? What if being a girl was a danger? How would you cope? What would you do?
I've loved anything science fiction since I first saw a woman sitting on the bridge of a star ship and not taking crap from the men.
