The main message I got from The Giver was how precious free agency, or the right to choose, is in all the little details of our everyday lives. Was this one of your purposes in writing this wonderful book, or did you have some other message in mind for your readers to receive?

Lois Lowry I tend not to like the word "message" in regard to books. I try not to be didactic or moralistic. I try to raise questions for readers to answer, and those answers will be different for different people.
