More Answered Questions

A Goodreads user
A Goodreads user asked Lois Lowry:

The Giver had a profound effect on me...Were you inspired by other similar books? 1984, Brave New World? Which were your favorites?

Selena
Selena asked Lois Lowry:

This question contains spoilers… (view spoiler)[ I haven't seen the movie yet, but from a question below, we see the Community gets the memories that Jonas shared. From "Son" we learn that Birthmothers also stop taking the pill and can feel and know about death and love (I had thought this unique to pale-eyed children). Would Birthmothers and pale-eyed children be better able to cope with the memories than the rest of the Community? (hide spoiler)]

Daryl
Daryl asked Lois Lowry:

I love your book, Number the Stars, and use it often with my students (I'm an elementary teacher!). Where did you get the idea for the storyline and the characters? It is such a beautiful story about such a sad time.
