Wine, typically. Beer doesn't quite unlock the brain the way wine does. I don't know what it is about my journal, a bottle of red wine and a comfy spot. The combination removes all the barriers stopping me from getting into that creative world trapped in my mind.
If you don't drink -- take a walk where you can observe people. Honestly, people watching opens up the imagination to all sorts of possibilities. Just don't be creepy about it. A busy park bench. A Mall. A stool at a bar. Each of them will have their own elements to observe and think about.
