I visit places. When I know the setting of where the scenes will take place, I find somewhere that resembles it. I sit and listen to sounds and take everything in from the trees, to the weather, to the wildlife etc. It really helps your ideas come together. In Briguella, I spent a lot of time sitting in an abandoned old tithe barn and this helped me to write some of the best pages in the book.
