There are a few key steps that are important for aspiring writers.
1. Do as Stephen King recommends in his book On Writing, which is "write a lot and read a lot". I didn't understand the significance of reading other work at first, but I guarantee, it does make a difference.
2. Take some creative writing classes, go to writing conferences, read books on the craft.
3. Connect with other writers. Join a critique group, writing groups, be around other creative people.
