Goodreads asked Emily Steele Jackson:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Emily Steele Jackson As my family was coming to the end of living overseas for nearly twelve years, we started to go through the emotional roller coaster of transition. While there are several helpful non-fiction books aimed at parents and teachers to help third culture kids go through transition, there aren’t as many stories for the kids themselves. I had already been toying with the idea of writing a book from a TCK’s perspective on what it was like to move to their “home” country after living overseas. Everything came together, and I wrote the first draft of Home, James during NaNoWriMo about six months before we moved back to the U.S. ourselves.
