As my family was coming to the end of living overseas for nearly twelve years, we started to go through the emotional roller coaster of transition. While there are several helpful non-fiction books aimed at parents and teachers to help third culture kids go through transition, there aren’t as many stories for the kids themselves. I had already been toying with the idea of writing a book from a TCK’s perspective on what it was like to move to their “home” country after living overseas. Everything came together, and I wrote the first draft of Home, James during NaNoWriMo about six months before we moved back to the U.S. ourselves.
