cat reads asked J.C. Long:

Learning about the HS issue, I came across your twitter feed. "So for all of you who are like "who cares as long as they write great books?" Well, this queer man cares, because they're benefiting from the struggles of a queer man without ever having to endure them. It's the ultimate exploitation." Are you against women writing m/m or women posing as gay men when writing about so called 'personal experiences'?

J.C. Long I am not against women writing MM if they can write it well, without exploiting and fetishizing the community. I am entirely against women posting as gay men when writing because it lends themselves an authority that they don't have, and claiming Own Voices when you are in fact not part of a certain marginalization is deplorable. That tweet was part of a thread in which I specifically mention the concept of posing as a gay man when you are in fact not.
