There is always going to be a comparison between your work and Iain Rankin, because you have both similar backgrounds at Edinburgh University and write about Edinburgh cops, were you concious of that when writing Kertamen?

Mauro Martone No, not particularly. Many writers have attended that institution, so no. Ian is a true crime fiction writer, whereas, although Kertamen has a police caper for a spine, the main body is a theological fantasy with some sporadic historical stuff here and there.
