I always wanted to write a novel about the Italian city of Bologna (I spent a wonderful summer there some years ago). I wanted to write about armour, alchemy, Black Magic, conspiracy, friendship, family, falling in love, the choices a young man must make in life (specifically between being and doing good, and the opposite), and life in the Renaissance (my favourite historical period). After a titanic struggle, the book was made!
