How do you get inspired to write?

Elizabeth Shore Really, what happened was that I had a lightbulb moment. I was living in San Diego at the time and was listening to a talk radio show. The caller was a woman who aspired to be a writer and asked the show host for tips on getting started in her career. The host made a comment about how difficult it is to get published no matter what you write, but then made an almost off-handed remark that the romance genre, while still difficult to get published in, may potentially be more receptive to new authors simply because of the sheer volume of material that's needed. Romance readers are voracious and the host opined that maybe romance would be an area for the caller to start because as a new writer, she may have a better chance of getting accepted.
