Goodreads asked Katherine Gilbert:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Katherine Gilbert Since this is my first published novel, this could really still describe me. Beyond that, I do have one piece of advice which may or may not apply to you.

I always find that, if I talk about something I'm writing as I'm writing it, I'll talk it out of myself and never bother to write it. I've seen a couple of other people this seems to apply to, as well, as they want to tell someone else in detail about their great idea--but then they don't actually ever get around to writing.

My advice, then, is write first, talk later. Until it's down on the page or the screen, don't share it, no matter how much the story is bursting through your brain in rainbow colors.
