Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

S.M. Matthews I have had a long standing connection with the Homicide Victims Support Group in Australia, which introduces me to the families of victims of domestic abuse. I started talking to a psychologist friend who taught me that there is more to abuse than black eyes and broken bones - many victims suffer silently and the more people I spoke to the more I came to understand just how common domestic abuse is. I was horrified with my findings and felt compelled to write a story that showed the reality of the subject. 'The Skinny Girl' not only lets readers walk a mile in the main character's shoes, it also adds to the current conversation about women's empowerment.
