Hey! Sorry for the delayed response, I missed the email :)
I think it would be fine for a sixteen year old.
There is no explicit sex (there is one steamy moment in one book, but stops before it turns into sex).
There is a fair amount of cussing. If you look at the sample chapters of Borrowed Magic, you can see how it's sprinkled throughout. The Misift Series has less cursing, but it's not free of it.
There is violence, some of it fairly graphic, but not overdone IMO.
