The late, great Maurice White, who formed the band Earth Wind and Fire once said, "I saw a void, and I filled it", referencing the fact that he didn't want to sing, but there was no one to sing the more manly-sounding songs as a counterpoint to Philip Bailey's wonderful falsetto.
