Goodreads asked Stacey Brown Randall:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Stacey Brown Randall No one ever accomplished anything by just dreaming and thinking. It is a necessary step but once you know what you want to write about – just get started. I had seven of the final 12 chapters written when my publisher accepted my manuscript and then used their publishing deadlines as the motivation to finish it.

But what I wrote, and thought was “close to done” changed significantly once my editor got ahold of it. Thirty days before deadline I was re-writing the back half of the book, moving chapters, adding chapters and eliminating parts as well. So, don’t focus on writing the perfect book – focus first on just pulling together the main idea, then the chapter outline and then writing the first chapter. Focus on the next step – not all the steps.
