David asked Gene Doucette:

Should a newcomer start with the Immortal series or the Immortal Chronicles (quite confusing but I worked it out in the end)?

Gene Doucette Great question! Here's the deal: there are some books which should be read in order, and some you can read any time. You can pick up any of the Immortal Chronicle novellas and read them, having read none of the novels and none of the *other* Immortal Chronicle novellas first. (The numbering of the Chronicles is strictly the order in which they were written, but they are independent of one another.) You can do this before, after or while reading the novels.

The novels DO have a reading order, which gets complicated only because there's an extra story kicking around. These go best if you read the first three Immortal novels (Immortal, Hellenic, Edge of the World) and THEN read Immortal stories: Eve, before reading novels four and five (Island of Impossible Things, From Hell.)

Hope that helps!
