Arthur Aldiss
Arthur Aldiss asked Gene Doucette:

What inspired you to be a writer? I recently read some of your books again, and realized how much they influenced my own writing style, your witty and sarcastic science fiction was a huge inspiration to me when I began to write fiction for the first time, so I wanted to know what authors or novels inspired you?

Gene Doucette I'm honored to be an inspiration!

Not 100% sure the best way to answer, only because it's possible I came out of the womb thinking I was going to be a writer, and then it became a question of what KIND of writer I was going to be.

I read a LOT as a kid, and probably learned my own style by figuring out how other writers did what they did, so if forced to trace backwards, I'd probably blame (in no particular order) Shel Silverstein, Douglas Adams, Stephen R Donaldson, Piers Anthony, Agatha Christie, Stephen King, Arthur Conan-Doyle, and the entire epic fantasy genre up to and including Tolkien, for what I'm like today.
