How do you get inspired to write?

D.M. Drake A lot of my inspiration comes from listening to music or observing life. Chapter 12 of my book was inspired from me hearing a song while I was in the dentist's chair. I couldn't wait to go home and write the plot twist that was in my head after hearing that song.

I took a stroll on our street with my daughter, one beautiful spring day and came up with a chapter for a new book I'm writing. I observed the natural setting around us. I got so much from just observing. I went home and couldn't believe how those added things made such a difference in the storytelling of that chapter.
