Sparkleshine asked Sandhya Menon:

Hi, I'ma soon-to-be sophomore in high school, and since you are one of my fave authors and since I love your books and how interesting they are, I want to ask you: How can I write a not boring (historical fiction) book? Because I want to write an interesting novel about the revolution/uprising/crisis/how unfair the militia is being in (north) Sudan, and I want many people in the United States to know about it.

Sandhya Menon Hi Saeeda! I love that you want to write this book. If you want to learn how to write historical fiction well, I suggest reading a LOT of it. Writers tend to learn craft mainly by osmosis, I think. Look up all the "best of" hist fic lists you can find from websites like B&N, Buzzfeed, Book Riot, and right here on GR. Begin there and see what style catches your fancy. Make notes on what works for you and especially what doesn't work for you. <3
