Many years ago, I met a couple, Caroline and Warren Hopkins, who'd survived the worst aviation cash in history: the 1977 collision of two passenger 747s in the Canary Islands. Caroline had written a detailed diary but wanted help bringing their story into the public. I'm a writer with a lifelong interest in aviation (my father flew during World War Two and had a career in the Air Force), so the connection made sense.
