Goodreads asked Nancy Yeager:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Nancy Yeager The short answer is the three Cs: coffee, coach, and countdown (days left to my deadline ;-)).

But honestly, those cures address writing stalls, which tend to occur when I don't yet have a handle on the story or something has gone off the rails. At those times, I might not be getting words onto the page, but I'm doing brain work and discovery exercises, which are a huge part of writing.

The only time I had real writer's block was when I was in a period of deep mourning. I just had nothing I wanted to say to the world, and I had to give myself time to heal. It took a really long time, but eventually the voices (characters) in my head returned and I was ready to tell their stories.
