Goodreads asked Paul Berge:

How do you get inspired to write?

Paul Berge Often, it's a simple word or comment dropped in my path that sets the process in motion. My first novel, Bootleg Skies, was based on an overheard comment about a 1920s airplane at the Antique Airplane Association's annual fly-in in Blakesburg, Iowa. Without giving away the plot, I thought, "Hmmm, that'd make a good movie." Since I hadn't yet learned how to make movies, I wrote a novel...something else about which I knew nothing. Never let ignorance stand in the way of creativity (or a political career).
